Since I'm extremely frugal and my husband thinks the yellow brick road leads to a money tree it's important we talk about our finances. If not, it would be a disaster. We've incorporated weekly financial dialogue, which has saved the relationship from a financial meltdown. Each weekend, we create a weekly budget and discuss our personal and financial goals.

When it comes to rules there isn't a one size that fits all clause. Relationships can be difficult enough, but when you mix in finances that's an entirely different conversation. Depending on which financial expert, which channel or which book, you will receive conflicting recommendations. It's important to gather as much information as possible and discuss what is best for you and your partner. In the end, you have to live with the decision, implement the tools and practice daily.

Dispute about finances is one of the top reasons many couples file for divorce. Today's economy is hard enough without the communication or lack of disclosing one's financial success.
