The Apple Doesn’t Fall Far From The Tree

Reported by Bahiyah Shabazz, MBA

If you want to know how your children will be as adults then look in the mirror.  Children emulate their parents behavior from expressions to handling finances.  The worst behavior you can display in front of your children is an action of disconnect.

To disconnect from yourself is to define who you are by someone else standards.  A disconnected individual puts more emphasis into material items instead of wealth and legacy.  S/he is oblivious to their surroundings and how they are indirectly teaching their children to be irresponsible adults.

It’s time to connect with yourself, children and goals.  Address and understand who you are for a better future.  A future that will educate your children how to be confident, financially empowered and capable of succeeding.

  1. Hi Bahiyah, you stated: “If you want to know how your children will be as adults then look in the mirror.”

I disagree with that statement because I raised my two “so-called” nieces after their natural mother abandonded them at the age of 6 and 7 years with the help of their dad, my brother. After 16 years, I was slapped by one and viciously accused by the other. “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree” is the most accurate statement because they ended up just like their mother I call their “surrogate.” Look at my blog and see what they posted/advertised as a “FINAL THANK YOU” on facebook. Hope to hear from you soon!

    • I’m sorry to hear the outcome of the rearing of your nieces. The seed came from the apple of the mother of your brother’s children, not you. I’m sure you did the best you could under the circumstances.

It sounds like you treated these young ladies as your own. The positive side to this story is that each one will remember what you planted in their psyche. Although, they have behaviors like their mother, they will also have behaviors like you. Ultimately, it will be up to them to choose which is right or wrong.

The overall message is to educate the children how to understand and accept themselves for a better life.
